Family Tree

Jenny Rowe

I am my unwavering foundation.
Their fingers unfurled,
Comforting, familiar,
Strong arms thrown open wide,
Towards the future of humankind.

Each branch a family,
Somebody close to me,
Each quivering leaf
A beating belief
That life prevails
Through storm and gale.

The trunk strengthens its knots,
Spreading roots deep through the rocks.
An impossible maze,
Of faces and names,
All anchored to earth,
Forging skyward from birth.
